Insert an ActiveX object

Use the
ActiveX Control
option in the
Objects
menu or
ActiveX Object
in the toolbox to insert an ActiveX object into a FactoryTalk View graphic display. The objects available depend on the software installed on your system. You can also register objects and remove them from the system registry in this dialog box.
When you attach animation to an ActiveX object you create a link between it and FactoryTalk View. Information is communicated between the two via HMI tags. The information must be in one of the formats used by HMI tags, that is, an analog or digital number or a string.
TIP:
Double-click most ActiveX objects to open the properties pages. The form and content of the property pages are determined by the application that created the object.
Use the
Properties
,
ActiveX Events
, and
Methods
options on the
Edit
menu to attach animation to an ActiveX object.
To name an ActiveX object, use the
Property Panel
option on the object’s context menu and type a name for the object. When you use the Invoke command to call a method, you need to specify the name of the object in which the method is implemented.
To draw an ActiveX object:
  1. In the toolbox, select
    Others > ActiveX Object
    .
  2. Drag the ActiveX tool to draw a box the size the object is to be.
  3. In the
    Insert an ActiveX Control
dialog box, select the object you want to embed.
  4. In the properties dialog box of the ActiveX control, set up the properties if needed.
