Device Properties dialog box, General tab

How do I access the dialog box?
When you add a device or view the properties of an existing device, the
Device Properties
dialog box shows
Add a device
: From the
Communication Setup
editor, right-click the driver or network you wish to add a device to, and click Add Device. In the
Add Device Selection
dialog box, select a device from the
Available Devices
list and click
OK
.
Existing device
: Right-click the device in the
Communication Setup
editor, and click
Properties
.
When you add a new device or view an existing device, the
Device Properties
dialog box is displayed. If the device is a bridge device sitting in a backplane, the
Device Properties
dialog box provides configurable fields for the device name, the slot number in the backplane, and the address of the non-backplane connection (port). If the device is not a bridge device, the configurable fields will be the device name, and either the slot number if the device has only a backplane connection (port), or the network address if the device has only a non-backplane connection (port).
Sometimes a device that is not typically used for bridging has additional ports (for example, a
ControlLogix
controller has a DF1 serial port). In this case, the Device Properties dialog box only permits configuring the incoming port (for example, the DF1 address on a
ControlLogix
controller if it is connected via the serial port, or the backplane slot number if it is accessed via a bridge module in the backplane). The address on any other port must be configured from the
Network Properties
dialog box, which is accessed by right-clicking on the appropriate network (shown underneath the device in the communications tree).
