Add a Generic Device from device description file
In the
Add Device Selection
dialog box, if a hardware device is not listed in the Available Devices
, you can add it as a GenericDevice, Generic Device From EDS File
with the device's device description file. You must have a valid and complete device description file (*.eds or *.xml) of the hardware device which you want to add.Prerequisites
- Follow the steps to register device description files in the Device Description File Installation Tool. This creates the device description file required to add a generic device.
To add a generic device from device description file
- In theAdd Device Selectiondialog box, selectGenericDevice, Generic Device From EDS File.
- In theEDS Filefield, enter the name of the device description file or clickBrowseto locate the file, and clickOK.
- Enter the information required on theDevice Propertiesdialog box, and then clickOK.TIP:Some hardware devices, such asMicro800series devices, require a patch (or a new release) ofFactoryTalk Linxthat adds support for the new hardware devices. This kind of device cannot communicate withFactoryTalk Linxby merely registering the devices' device description files. If the hardware device cannot communicate withFactoryTalk Linxafter completing the steps above, contact Rockwell Automation Technical Support.
