Manually switch between servers

Use
Server Status
 to manually switch between an active server and a standby secondary server.
If more than one server is running on a host computer, changes made through
Server Status Properties
 affect only the selected redundant server pair. All other servers continue to run independently.
Prerequisites
  • Use the
    Policy Settings
     tab of
    User Rights Assignment Properties
    to obtain the proper security permissions to manually switch between servers.
To manually switch between servers
  1. In
    FactoryTalk Administration Console
    Explorer
    , right-click the server object and select
    Server Status
    .
  2. In
    Server switchover
    , select
    Switchover
    .
    The system checks whether the Secondary server is ready to become active. If the Secondary server is not ready, the system sends an error message to
    FactoryTalk Diagnostics
    .
    The
    Switchover
     button is available only if a redundant server pair is configured to continue using the secondary server, even when the primary server becomes available again. If the redundant server pair is configured to switch back to the primary server as soon as it becomes available again, the
    Switchover
     button is not available.
