Set cache policies for a computer

Rules for directory cache expiration in
FactoryTalk
are managed system-wide in
Security Policy Properties
.
These policies determine:
  • How long cache files remain available after the client computer is disconnected from the server.
  • If a warning message appears before the directory cache expires.
Some circumstances require overriding the default system-wide settings or the computer group settings and specifying directory cache timeout policies for a specific computer.
More information about how to set cache policies for a computer group, refer to Set cache policies for a computer group.
Prerequisites
Setting cache policies for a computer requires these permissions:
  • Common > List Children
  • Common > Read
  • Common > Write
  • Common > Configure Security
To set cache policies for a computer
  1. In
    FactoryTalk Administration Console
    Explorer
    , expand
System > Computers and Groups > Computers
    .
  2. Right-click the computer and select
    Properties
    .
  3. Select the
    Directory Cache
    tab.
    If
    Override Directory Cache Expiration Policy
is not selected (the default), the cache expiration policy depends on whether the computer is assigned to a computer group.
    • If the computer belongs to a computer group, the cache expiration adopts the computer group policies.
    • If the computer is not assigned to a computer group, the cache expiration of the computer adopts the directory cache expiration policies. If a computer is assigned to multiple computer groups, the computer adopts the cache expiration of the first assigned computer group in alphabetical order.
  4. Select
    Override Directory Cache Expiration Policy
to set the cache expiration policy for the computer.
    • Enter a number (
      0-9999
