Install the RSSecurity Emulator

For products that do not support
FactoryTalk Security
, the RSSecurity Emulator allows you to configure users, groups, security permissions, and so on, in one place, and then share those settings among the client software products. This means you do not have to maintain your RSSecurity and
FactoryTalk Security
systems separately.
To use the RSSecurity Emulator, install it on every computer where RSSecurity client products are installed. Once installed, you do not have to do anything to make the RSSecurity Emulator run. However, in order for the computers to access the
FactoryTalk
system, you must point the existing RSSecurity client computers at the computer where the
FactoryTalk
Network Directory Server is running.
TIP:
  • RSSecurity Emulator allows
    FactoryTalk Security
to emulate an RSSecurity Server and allows existing RSSecurity Server clients to access
    FactoryTalk Security
. Uninstall the RSSecurity Server software before installing the RSSecurity Emulator.
  • The RSSecurity Emulator does not provide all of the features of RSSecurity Server. Some RSSecurity Server clients, such as
    RSLogix 5
    , already support
    FactoryTalk Security
, eliminating the need for installing the RSSecurity Emulator.
To install the RSSecurity Emulator
Follow these steps on every computer where RSSecurity client products are installed:
  1. From the CD-ROM of any
    FactoryTalk
    product, install the
    FactoryTalk Services Platform
, if it is not already installed.
    All
    FactoryTalk
products running on the same computer must use a compatible version of the
    FactoryTalk
    platform, whether
    FactoryTalk Services Platform
    Version 2.10 or later, or
    FactoryTalk Automation Platform
Version 2.00. For details about the version of the
    FactoryTalk
platform software required for the system, see the documentation supplied with the
    FactoryTalk
    products.
  2. If the
    FactoryTalk
system is distributed across a network, specify which computer is hosting the
    FactoryTalk
Network Directory Server. To do this, go to
    Rockwell Software > FactoryTalk Tools
    and run
    Specify FactoryTalk Directory Location
. Then specify the name of the computer where the Network Directory Server is located.
    If the
    FactoryTalk
system is not distributed across a network and uses only the
    FactoryTalk
Local Directory on this computer, skip this step.
  3. To install the RSSecurity Emulator, go to
    Rockwell Software > FactoryTalk Tools
    and run
    RSSecurity Emulator Install
    .
  4. Follow the instructions on the screen to install the RSSecurity Emulator.
