Load an application from removable media
Load a runtime application from removable media to the HMI device using the
Settings
screen or by using the Load Application event command. Using View Designer
to download a project is not required when the application is on a USB storage device or SD card. To load an application from removable media
- Insert the USB storage device or SD Card containing the runtime application into the HMI device.TIP:Tips:
- Verify there is only one inserted USB storage device in the HMI device.View Designerdoes not support loading an application from removable media when there are two inserted USB storage devices.
- If the major revision of the application on removable media does not match the major revision of firmware running on the HMI device, the removable media should also have the .dmk file for the required firmware revision.
- On the HMI device or in theSystem Banner, selectNavigation
and then select
Settings. - SelectLoad from Media. TheLoad Applicationpopup opens.
- UnderSource, selectSD CardorUSB Device.
- UnderRuntime application files, select the runtime application to load. The application appears in the box at the bottom of the popup.
- SelectNext.
- UnderHMI to controller path, specify the path for the HMI to use after the project is loaded, by selecting either:
- Keep path currently in use on HMI device.Use the controller path currently used on the HMI device. Selecting this option displays the current HMI to controller paths.
- Load path defined in the runtime application file.Use the controller path configured in the runtime application that is loading.TIP:Tips:
- If loading the runtime application requires a firmware update to the HMI device, a message appears with the current and required firmware versions. SelectLoadto proceed with the firmware update and then load the project.
- If the removable media does not contain the required firmware version, a prompt appears. SelectBackand then copy the required firmware version to the removable media before loading the runtime application file.
- If the HMI device has a firmware version that does not support loading a runtime application file from removable media, a prompt appears. SelectBackand then use ControlFLASH to update the firmware on the HMI device before loading the runtime application file.
- Loading firmware that has a major version earlier than version 6 not supported when loading an application from removable media.
- Loading firmware from media on an HMI device currently running firmware earlier than version 6 is not supported.
- Firmware can be loaded from media on an HMI device running out-of-the-box manufacturing firmware if the HMI device was manufactured after the version 6 release.
- SelectLoad. The HMI device performs the firmware update (if required) and loads the project. Afterwards, theHomescreen opens on the device.IMPORTANT:If you use a custom command to load new firmware from removable media, and the screen containing the command is already opened before you insert the media, reload the screen, or navigate out of the screen and return, before using this command.
