Unable to connect to the web application

Up to three web browsers on one computer (or three tabs, in browsers that support tabs) can share one
FactoryTalk ViewPoint
client license to connect to the same published web application. Licenses in use are released immediately when a user signs out from a web application, or within one minute when a web browser disconnects.
If you tried to connect to a web application, and the web browser was unable to obtain a FactoryTalk ViewPoint client license, consider the following potential causes and remedies.
Cookies are not enabled
In order to sign in to
FactoryTalk ViewPoint
, your browser must allow cookies.
  • Verify your browser has cookies enabled.
PanelView Plus
name contains an invalid DNS character.
If the
PanelView Plus
name contains an underscore, it may not be accessible on the network.
  • Enter the IP address in the URL syntax:
    http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/ftvp
    .
If the site has an HTTPS binding, enter
    https
    instead of
    http
    .
Unable to open the requested display
When you enter a web address for the initial screen in the browser, if the web address exceeds the maximum 2048 characters allowed, the following error message appears, "Unable to open the requested display. The web address exceeds the maximum length of 2048 characters".
Different browsers have different length limits. If you get this error message because you are using large numbers of parameters it is recommended that you use a parameter file instead.
To avoid this problem, rework the screen so that the web address is less than 2048 characters.
FactoryTalk ViewPoint
is disabled
If
FactoryTalk ViewPoint
is disabled on the
PanelView Plus
, web browsers will be unable to connect.
To enable the
FactoryTalk ViewPoint
server
  1. On the
    PanelView Plus
terminal, in the Control Panel, double click
    Network Servers
    .
  2. Click the
    ViewPoint Server
    button to enable
    FactoryTalk ViewPoint
. The button turns green indicating the
    FactoryTalk ViewPoint
    Server is now enabled.
  3. Close and reopen the
    FactoryTalk View ME
    application on the
    PanelView Plus
    terminal.
    IMPORTANT:
The Machine Edition application on the terminal must be closed and reopened. When the application is restarted or the terminal is reset, the FactoryTalk ViewPoint Client is able to connect to the web application. If you attempt to connect a FactoryTalk ViewPoint Client to the terminal without restarting the application, the following message shows "ME application is not running". This message shows whether the application is running or not.
TIP:
  • If a connected client computer cannot be reached (for example, the computer is locked in an office), you can either reset the operator terminal or wait until that session is automatically signed out after the 20 minute inactivity timeout period.
  • When you enter a URL in the browser, do not exceed the maximum length of 2083 characters. Rework the screen so that the URL is less than 2083 characters. If the URL exceeds the maximum 2083 characters allowed, the following error message appears, "URL exceeds max allow length for case when length of URL > 2083 characters".
