Use Runtime 4.00 and later security

You can use the new security system the same way you used the previous system, by assigning security codes to displays and to users or to groups of users. The only one additional step is adding users to
FactoryTalk Security
.
Security provides a way to restrict access to certain parts of the system. You can limit the users who have access to the system by setting up user accounts and passwords. You can also limit users to specific graphic displays.
If you don’t set up security, anyone can use the system without logging on, and view all the graphic displays.
TIP:
Remember that the users and permissions you set up in
FactoryTalk Security
apply not only to
FactoryTalk View Studio
, but also to any other
FactoryTalk
-enabled software running on the same computer.
To set up
FactoryTalk Security
to work like 3.20 and earlier security
  1. During installation, the FactoryTalk Directory Configuration Wizard grants administrative permissions to all authenticated Windows users, that is, users who are able to log onto the local computer.
  2. At design time, add your users and user groups to
    FactoryTalk Security
    through the
    Runtime Security
editor. Assign passwords or not as you choose.
  3. Open the
    Runtime Security
editor and add the groups or individual users to the application. Assign security codes in the Security Settings for <
    application name
    > dialog box.
  4. Assign security codes to displays in the
    Display Settings
    dialog box.
