Assign global object parameter values

Global object parameters are assigned to reference objects in graphic displays.
Use the
Global Object Parameter Values
dialog box to assign unique parameter values to multiple reference objects without having to break the links to the base object's tags and expressions.
To assign global object parameter values
  1. Select a reference object on a graphic display.
  2. Right-click and then select
    Global Object Parameter Values
from the context menu to open the
    Global Object Parameter Values
    dialog box.
    or
    From the
    Edit
    menu, select
    Global Object Parameter Values
    .
  3. Assign values to each of the parameters defined in the
    Global Object Parameter Definitions
    dialog box.
    The
    Global Object Parameter Values
menu choice will be unavailable if:
    • the object selected is not a reference object
    • the object selected is a reference object but its base object has no global object parameters defined
    • the object selected is part of a group reference object
Options
  • Name
Names of global object parameters defined in the
    Global Object Parameter Definitions
dialog box are shown here. Users cannot edit this cell.
  • Value
Type a value for the global object parameter. This can be any string. If a tag is selected in the next cell, the tag will be displayed in the Value cell. This property is optional.
  • Tag
    Click the
    Browse
    button to open the
    Tag Browser
and select a tag or a folder as the parameter value. Selecting a folder that contains a structure tag establishes a path to the structure tag that will act as the backing tag for this reference object.
  • Description
    The description specified in the
    Global Object Parameter Definitions
dialog box is shown here. Users cannot edit this cell.
    TIP:
To ensure that changes made to the tags and expressions in the base object are also made in the reference object, set the global object defaults in the reference object as follows:
    • LinkAnimation = Link with expression
    • LinkConnections = True
