Configure download drivers

Before you can transfer files between your desktop computer and a terminal on the network, you must configure a driver on each machine. The type of driver you need depends on the kind of network that connects the two.
To configure a download driver on your desktop computer
  1. In
    FactoryTalk View Studio
    , select the
    Communications
    tab of the
    Explorer
    window.
  2. Right-click the top level device that identifies your computer, and select
    Add Driver
    .
  3. Select the driver for the network type the terminal is on and click
    OK
    .
  4. In the driver configuration window that opens, set up the driver and click
    OK
    .
When you return to the
Communications Explorer
, the new driver will appear in the tree.
To configure a download driver on the terminal
  1. Start the terminal and go to Configuration Mode.
  2. In the
    FactoryTalk View ME Station
    dialog box, click
    Terminal Settings
    .
  3. Select
    Networks and Communications >
    FactoryTalk Linx
    Communications
    .
  4. Select the network type the terminal is connected to, and then click
    Edit Driver
    .
  5. In the driver configuration window that opens, set up the driver and click
    Close
. The driver must be for the same network type that you configured on the desktop computer.
  6. Restart the terminal to load the new configuration.
To communicate with the terminal
  1. In
    FactoryTalk View Studio
    , select the
    Communications Explorer
    .
  2. Right-click the network icon below the top level device that identifies your computer, and select
    Stop Browsing
    .
  3. Right-click the same icon again and select
    Start Browsing
. The terminal you have just configured appears as a node under the driver, along with any other devices on the network that have this driver set up.
