Set up data logging (Paths tab)

On the
Paths
tab, specify where the runtime data log files will be saved. You can choose the system default path or specify a custom location.
System default path
The system default path will vary depending on the computer that
FactoryTalk View ME Station
is running on. Log files are stored in:
  • (
    Windows
    computer applications and
    MobileView
    terminal applications)
    \Users\Public\Public Documents\RSView Enterprise\ME\Logs\Runtime Application Name\DLGLOG\Data Log Model Name
    .
  • (
    PanelView Plus 7
    and
    PanelView Plus 6
    terminal applications)
\Windows\Logs\Runtime Application Name\DLGLOG\Data Log Model Name
    .
  • (
    PanelView Plus
    ,
    PanelView Plus Compact
    , or
    PanelView Plus CE
    terminal applications)
    \Storage Card\Rockwell Software\RSViewME\Logs\Runtime Application\Name\DLGLOG\Data Log Model Name
    .
Custom location - Path where data log file(s) will be stored
Type the path to the folder where runtime data log file(s) will be stored.
  • For
    Windows
    computer applications and
    MobileView
terminal applications, the path must contain a drive letter (such as
    C:\
) or use the Universal Naming Convention (UNC) style.
  • For
    PanelView Plus 7
    and
    PanelView Plus 6
applications, you can log to a location on the terminal, a shared folder on a networked computer, or an SD card. For example,
    \Storage Card2\Data\Logs
    specifies a location on the
    PanelView Plus 7
    or
    PanelView Plus 6
    terminal.
  • For
    PanelView Plus
    ,
    PanelView Plus Compact
    , and
    PanelView Plus CE
terminal applications, you can log to a location on the terminal, a shared folder on a networked computer, or Compact Flash card. For example,
    \Storage Card\Data\Logs
    specifies a location on the
    PanelView Plus
    ,
    PanelView Plus Compact
    , or
    PanelView Plus CE
    terminal.
    TIP:
    • To log to a shared folder on a networked computer, use UNC style for the path. For example,
      \\server\logs
      .
      logs
is a shared folder on a network server.
    • A shared folder on a networked computer must be on a shared drive.
    • The network must have domain name resolution, such as a DNS server, to resolve the UNC computer name defined in your path.
    • If you specify a path to a folder that does not exist, the path will be created at runtime, as long as the user logged in to the runtime computer has folder creation rights at the specified location.
    • For information on converting logged tag data to other formats, such as Excel, see Knowledgebase Document IDs: QA33725 -
      FactoryTalk View Studio
      : File Viewer Utility
and QA3342 - RSView Machine Edition Data Logging Utility for pre-version 4.00.
