Discover and add a controller connected to a computer

Use the discover device function to view and add the devices connected to a computer. You can use the function to:
  • Replace the existing controller in the controller project with the discovered one.
  • Add a controller and its controller project to an empty project.
Prerequisites
  • The controller is offline.
To discover and add a controller connected to a computer
  1. Open
    Select device
     by doing one of the following:
    • In
      Project Organizer
      , select Discover device button.
    • In
      Project Organizer
      , select
      Discover device
      .
    • In
      Project Organizer
      , right-click a blank space, and then select
      Discover device
      .
    • Open Add device, and then select
      Discover device
      .
  2. If connecting to the device via Ethernet, in
    Select device
    , select Add driver button, and then in
    Configure Driver
    , select
    Add New
    , enter the IP address of the device, and select
    OK
    .
  3. In
    Configure Driver
    , select
    Close
    .
  4. In
    Select device
    , select the node that contains the device to refresh the device list.
  5. Select the device, and then select
    OK
    .
    The device is added to the project and
    Project Organizer
    . An upload is then performed automatically, and the controller will be connected.
  6. (optional) If you've already added a controller to the project and are selecting another controller from
    Select device
    ,
    Discover controller
     opens, asking if you want to replace the existing controller with the selected one. Select
    Replace
    .
