FactoryTalk AssetCentre AgentController Service
FactoryTalk AssetCentre AgentController Service is a service that hosts an AgentController for FactoryTalk AssetCentre. The FactoryTalk AssetCentre AgentController is not only responsible for allocating tasks to agents but also actively engages in task execution. FactoryTalk AssetCentre agents are programs that communicate with the FactoryTalk AssetCentre server and perform scheduled tasks on the server’s behalf. Beginning with FactoryTalk AssetCentre version 13.00, the Agent Service Logon Configuration has been removed.
The FactoryTalk AssetCentre Agent application is designed to run with the privileges of the currently logged-in session, including desktop interaction. The AgentController service runs in session 0, which runs automatically without a user being logged in. The AgentController service is unable to interact with the desktop. The application and service cannot run simultaneously. Use the FactoryTalk AssetCentre Agent Launch Control Panel to manage the agent (see Knowledgebase Document ID: QA31704– FactoryTalk AssetCentre Agent Launch Control Panel).
Beginning with FactoryTalk AssetCentre version 13.00, you can start, stop, or change the AgentController mode of operation using the FactoryTalk AssetCentre Agent Controller Launch Control Panel. This utility makes all necessary system alterations when changing the AgentController mode.
IMPORTANT:
- If the AgentController mode is running as a service, you can stop the AgentController service from the Windows Services control panel or the FactoryTalk AssetCentre Agent Controller Launch Control Panel.
- If the AgentController mode is running as an application, you can only stop this mode using the FactoryTalk AssetCentre Agent Controller Launch Control Panel.
- After changing the service mode from running as a service to running as an application, you must sign in to the Windows operating system using the user account that you selected to run as an application for the change to take effect.
- When performing the Disaster Recovery for Siemens S7 Controller (TIA Portal), Mitsubishi Controller (GX Works2), Mitsubishi Controller (GX Works3) or Schneider Controller (Control Expert), the AgentControllermustrun as an Application.
- In a Windows domain environment, when the FactoryTalk AssetCentre AgentController runs as an application, it is critical to select a standard Windows domain user account. This allows Microsoft Windows Communication Foundation (WCF) to authenticate between the FactoryTalk AssetCentre agent to connect to the FactoryTalk AssetCentre server. If the AgentController is configured to use a local Windows user account, then WCF won’t work correctly and the FactoryTalk AssetCentre agent won’t be able to connect to the server.
