Agent
A program that can be located and run on a computer to help another computer complete a task. Agents allow work to be distributed and shared among multiple computers to spread processing load and speed up operations. When a server needs an agent to perform a task, it locates a computer running the correct agent and assigns the task to that agent. The agent then reports the task's completion to the server.
In FactoryTalk AssetCentre, agents are used to perform searches and the operations associated with purchased capabilities such as Disaster Recovery. Disaster Recover operations are Backup, and Backup and Compare. When you run a Disaster Recovery schedule, an agent actually performs the task. When you run a search, an agent performs that task.
Archive Check Out Status
The Archive Check Out Status records which files or binders in Archive are currently checked out. Based on conditions set, this log can be searched by user name, the computer/location from which the file or binder was checked out, and the date the file or binder was checked out.
Archive History
The Archive History records archive activities such has checking in and checking out files. This log shows the activities on the History tab of FactoryTalk AssetCentre's version control tool, Archive.
Arguments (<ARD>)
The device argument (that is, a text string) for a specific custom device. Refer to the custom device's documentation to find out what device arguments are available for that custom device.
Arguments (<ARG>)
A global argument (that is, a text string) which is shared by all custom devices for the Backup (or Backup and Compare) schedules in FactoryTalk AssetCentre. You can enter a text string, or select a mnemonics from the available global argument list.
The following table describes the global argument that may be used.

Asset
An asset in FactoryTalk AssetCentre represents items of value in your automation system—things you want to control and to which you want to monitor access. Assets can be devices (controllers, drives, or robots), process devices
(that control or measure a process variable), files (program files or even drawings or word processing files), folders, or containers of other assets. While FactoryTalk AssetCentre is intended to handle files for automation projects, any kind of file can become an asset in FactoryTalk AssetCentre.
Asset tree
The asset tree, shown in the Asset View, is a representation of your plant including all the assets (anything from a device to a program to a procedure document) that you want to control, back up, or monitor. You design the asset tree to show your assets in a hierarchical structure much like the file and folder structure in which the data on your computer is represented.
Audit Log
The Audit Log shows database information regarding actions users perform in the system, such as making edits to an Logix Designer project or checking out a file from the FactoryTalk AssetCentre database. Audit records are generated by FactoryTalk enabled products.

Backup
A scheduled operation that stores a backup copy of files associated with a device asset in the FactoryTalk AssetCentre Archive.
Backup and Compare
A scheduled operation that retrieves a backup copy of the file in the physical device, compares it to a specified version stored in the FactoryTalk AssetCentre Archive, and then reports the differences between the two.
Binder
A binder is a collection of files and folders that is treated as a unit. For example, when you check out a binder all the contents of the binder are checked out and placed in your working folder.
Binders are used to specify master files for remote computer assets and Siemens S7 Controllers (STEP7). Binders are also used for backup data for Siemens S7 Controllers (STEP7).
