Items in S7 Addressing dialog box
Items in the dialog box include:
- Connection PathSelect the protocol and network-specific details used to communicate to the physical device. The path segments in curly brackets {} indicate the communications protocol used in that portion of the path.PLCat the end of the path represents the S7 (STEP7) controller to which you are connecting. The number at the beginning of the path is unique to each communication path. It can be used as a reference to quickly compare the configuration of assets or to communicate with other technical personnel regarding the selected communication path.Only two connection paths are available. This connection path...is used for...21-PC->{MPI/Profibus}->PLCdirect connection to a CPU using MPI or PROFIBUS. Additional Siemens software may be required. For example, if using the Siemens CP5711 - USB to MPI/PROFIBUS module you need to install the SIMATIC NET software that was provided by Siemens.51-PC->{TCP/IP}->TCP/IP->PLCconnecting to the communications controller in an S7 system using ISO-on-TCP (RFC1006) protocol.
- Connection Path ParametersOnly the parameters that pertain to the selected connection path are shown.
- IP AddressType the IP address of the physical device.
- RackType the rack number of the Siemens SIMATIC S7 CPU. Valid entries are 0-21. Use 0-3 for the SIMATIC 300. Use 0-21 for the SIMATIC 400.The rack number is necessary if creating a Disaster Recovery schedule for this device.
- CPU SlotType the slot number of the Siemens SIMATIC S7 CPU. Valid entries are 1-18.This information is necessary if creating a Disaster Recovery schedule for this device.
- MPI/PROFIBUS AddressEnter the MPI or PROFIBUS address. The maximum allowable address depends on the device and hardware. For PROFIBUS the valid range is 0-126 with a few exceptions.
- When in the redundant PROFIBUS-DP mode, addresses 1, 2, and 125 are already used (and thus not allowed for a PROFIBUS CPU address).
- In most cases 0 is used for the PG/PC programming device.
- Address 126 is not allowed in the EN 50170 part 2 European Fieldbus standard for PROFIBUS. However, some PROFIBUS-DP-Master devices do not follow this standard and do allow an address of 126.For MPI, 0-32 is recommended, but 33-126 is possible with some devices.
- MPI/PROFIBUS Access PointType the name of the MPI or PROFIBUS driver configured in the Siemens PG/PC tool.
