Rockwell Automation, Inc. (NYSE: ROK), the world's largest company dedicated to industrial automation and digital transformation, today announced that Italian and Swiss household brand Orphea has deployed a new, custom-made end-of-line packaging system, designed by Rockwell Automation and automation specialist Vimco, that will accelerate production, reduce error rates and enable Orphea to expand and scale.
Orphea is a leading manufacturer of fabric protectors. Its products are made from sheets of porous paper impregnated with perfumed oils that contain active ingredients of vegetal origin. These premium products are delicate and packed in high-quality packaging that requires dexterity to manipulate and to fasten closed.
“With this new automated system, we can control production cost, speed and quality in a way that enables us to expand, scale and diversify,” said Orphea CEO Gianpaolo Re. “Greater efficiency is key to our future product and expansion plans. We hear a lot of hype about robotics. But I was really impressed by this new system. It allows us to combine the quality of craftsmanship with the speed, precision and accuracy of automation.”
Until now, this process of packaging fabric-protectors had been too complex and required too much precision to automate. The new system, based on Allen‑Bradley® drives and switches, overcomes this, providing the precision and dexterity needed to handle the delicate product, even switching rapidly from one size to another, allowing Orphea to merge product lines for greater efficiency and cost effectiveness.
“Because of the high quality of the product and the complexity of the packaging, this was a challenging job,” said Chiara Mambretti, sales and market lead at Vimco. “Thanks to our fantastic working relationship with Rockwell Automation and Orphea, we’re extremely excited by the end result, which we expect to greatly enhance the efficiency of the production process.”
“Rockwell Automation was very pleased to work with Vimco in supporting Orphea,” said Rodrigo Riera, regional vice-president, Southern Europe, Rockwell Automation. “Orphea’s application demonstrates how modern precision robotics is now able to automate and radically optimize tasks once thought so complex that they could only be done manually.”
