Secure the controller with a password

Create a password for the
Micro800
controller to prevent unauthorized access to the configuration and programming in the controller.
When the controller is configured with a password, you must enter the password before doing any of the following:
  • Connect to the controller.
  • Change the controller password.
  • Clear the controller password.
IMPORTANT:
If the existing password is forgotten or lost, there is no way to recover, change, or clear the controller password.
  • If a controller fault occurs when configuring password protection, restart the
    Micro800
    controller and repeat the steps to ensure that the configuration change completes successfully.
  • For controller firmware revision 10.0 and later, clearing passwords is not supported.
Prerequisites
  • Connect to the
    Micro800
    controller and set the controller to
    Program
    mode.
To secure the controller with a password
  1. Open
    Change password for <controller-name>
    by doing one of the following:
    • In
      Connection
      , select
      Secure
      , and then select
      Set password
      .
    • In
      Project Organizer
      , right-click the controller, and then select
      Secure
      Set Password
      .
    • In
      Project Organizer
      , select the controller, and then from the menu bar, select
      Device
      Secure
      .
  2. In
    Change password for <project-name>
    , enter a password. Passwords must be 8 to 64 characters long, which can include letters, numbers, spaces, and any keyboard symbols.
  3. In
    Confirmation
    , enter the exact password again.
  4. (optional) To view the password, select .
  5. Select
    OK
    .
