Add Unassigned Devices to Project

You can add devices to the
Unassigned
folder and then assign devices to a controller or Ethernet bus as the project develops. You can also use the Unassigned folder to move devices between controllers.
In this example, we will add unassigned devices to the project and then assign them to a controller and Ethernet bus.
  1. In
    Devices
    explorer, right-click the
    Unassigned
    folder and select
    New device...
  2. In the
    Add devices to
    dialog, select the devices you want to add.

  3. Select
    Continue
    .
  4. Under
    Pending to configure
    , enter the device name, slot number, and IP address (if required).
    TIP: If you do not know what the slot number is at the start, you can always assign the slot number later using the module properties dialog.

  5. Select
    Finish
    to add the devices.
    The devices appear in the
    Unassigned
    folder.
  6. Assign local I/O to the controller:
    1. Right-click the controller backplane and select
      Add device...
    2. In the
      Assign devices to
      dialog, select
      Project
    3. Select the local I/O modules and select
      Continue

    4. On the second page, select
      Finish
      to add the devices.
  7. Assign remote adapter and I/O:
    1. Right-click the controller backplane and select
      Add device...
    2. In the
      Assign devices to
      dialog, select
      Project
    3. Select the Ethernet adapter and select
      Continue

    4. On the second page, select
      Finish
      to add the device.
    5. Under the remote adapter, right-click on
      Backplane2
      and select
      Add device...
    6. Select the remote I/O modules and select
      Continue

      Finish
      to add the devices.
The devices appear in the
Devices
explorer.
