Module Properties - General for 1756-DHRIO

Use this tab to create/view module properties for a 1756-DHRIO module.
On this tab, you can:
  • view the type and description of the module being created
  • view the vendor of the module being created
  • enter the name of the module
  • enter a description for the module
  • view the parent module in the module tree
  • enter the slot number where the module resides
  • select the mode of channel A and B
  • select the baud rate for Remote I/O on channel A and B
    Only the Series C (Version 5.2 or later) 1756-DHRIO modules support a DH+ setting at a115K or 230.4K baud rate. In 230K DH+ mode, only channel A is active; channel B is disabled.
  • select the minor revision number of your module
  • select Electronic Keying
  • view the status the controller has about the module (you can only view the status while online)
Parameters
Type
Displays the type and description of the module being created (read only).
Vendor
Displays the vendor of the module being created (read only).
Name
Enter the name of the module.
The name must be IEC 1131-3 compliant. This is a required field and must be completed; otherwise you receive an error message when you exit this tab. An error message is also displayed if a duplicate name is detected, or you enter an invalid character. If you exceed the maximum name length allowed by the software, the extra character(s) are ignored.
Description
Enter a description for the module here, up to 128 characters. You can use any printable character in this field. If you exceed the maximum length, the software ignores any extra character(s).
Comm Parent
Displays the parent module in the module tree.
Slot
Enter the slot number where the module resides. The values range from 0 to 1 less than the chassis size (e.g., if you have a 4-slot chassis, the values are from 0 to 3). If you enter a slot number that is out of this range, you will receive an error message when you go to apply your changes.
The slot number cannot be changed when online.
TIP: To establish local messaging to a ControlLogix processor through a DHRIO module in the local chassis, the DHRIO controller slot must be set to the slot that the processor is in (e.g., the default setting is 0). You can configure this setting in
FactoryTalk Linx
using the 1756-DHRIO Module Configuration option (right click the DHRIO module icon in
Network Browser
and choose
Module Configuration
). Refer to the ControlLogix Data Highway Plus/Remote I/O Communication Interface Module User Manual for more information.
Channel A and Channel B Network
Select the mode of each channel. Choose from:
  • Remote I/O (RIO)
  • Data Highway Plus (DH+)
    TIP: If the DHRIO module is used solely for DH+, it is not recommended or necessary that you add a DHRIO module icon to the I/O configuration tree in the
    Logix Designer
    application. When you go online with a controller that has a module icon set up for a gateway DHRIO module (i.e., only DH+, no RIO configured), a warning flag is displayed on the DHRIO icon.
Channel A and Channel B Baud Rate
Select the baud rate for the Remote I/O on channel A and B.
The
Logix Designer
application automatically detects the channel configured for RIO when you create child modules under the 1756-DHRIO. If both Channel A and B are using DH+ you will not be able to create child modules under the 1756-DHRIO module. If RIO is chosen for both channels, you must choose the desired channel for the child module to use.
While RIO baud rate settings are configured in the
Logix Designer
application, baud rate settings for DH+ are configured using the Network Type rotary switches on the physical module. The following table shows the required switch settings.

To enable the 230K baud rate for a Channel A configured for DH+, the Channel A Network Type rotary switch on the physical module must be set to position 3. This setting indicates the physical module’s configuration. Choose from:
  • 57.6 K baud (default baud rate for RIO)
  • 115.2 K baud
  • 230.4 K baud (only the 1756-DHRIO/C modules support a DH+ setting at a 230K baud rate which is also the default)
Revision
Select the appropriate revision information for your module.
The revision is divided into the major revision and minor revision. The major revision is used to indicate the revision of the interface to the module. Valid values are in the range from 0 to 127. The minor revision is used to indicate the firmware revision. Valid values are in the range from 0 to 255, with 1 being the default value.
TIP: You can change the Major Revision for a 1756-DHRIO module offline or online; when you do this, the revision information is immediately changed (i.e., you do not need to click Apply).
Electronic Keying
Select one of these keying options for your module during initial module configuration:
  • Exact Match - all of the parameters described below must match or the inserted module will reject the connection.
  • Compatible Module
    The following criteria must be met, or else the inserted module will reject the connection:
    • the Module Types, Catalog Number, and Major Revision must match
    • the Minor Revision of the physical module must be equal to or greater than the one specified in the software
  • Disable Keying - the controller will not employ keying at all.

    Changing the RPI and Electronic Keying selections may cause the connection to the module to be broken and may result in a loss of data.

Be extremely cautious when using this option; if used incorrectly, this option can lead to personal injury or death, property damage or economic loss.
When you insert a module into a slot in a ControlLogix chassis, the
Logix Designer
application compares the following information for the inserted module to that of the configured slot:
  • Vendor
  • Product Type
  • Catalog Number
  • Major Revision
  • Minor Revision
This feature prevents the inadvertent insertion of the wrong module in the wrong slot.
Status
Displays the status the controller has about the module:

Indicates:
Standby
a transient state that occurs when shutting down
Faulted
the controller is unable to communicate with the module
When the status is Faulted, the Connection tab displays the fault.
Tip
: When online, if the DHRIO module is configured for DH+ only, this module continuously displays Faulted as its Status on the Module Properties dialog even when normal communications exist.
Validating
a transient state that occurs before connecting to the module
Connecting
a state that occurs while the connection(s) are being established to the module
Running
the module is communicating and everything is working as expected
Shutting Down
the connections are closing
Inhibited
the connection to the module is inhibited
Waiting
a connection to this module has not yet been made due to one of the following:
  • its parent has not yet made a connection to it
  • its parent is inhibited
  • its parent is faulted
