Establish FactoryTalk Historian and PI Server connectivity
To retrieve historical data in a FactoryTalk Historian SE server or PI Server using data
grid objects, or to trend historical data in
a FactoryTalk Historian
SE server, Asset Framework server, FactoryTalk Historian ME module, or PI Server
using TrendPro or XY Plot, you must first establish connectivity to the data
sources.To establish connectivity to the data sources
- Make sure to installFactoryTalk Historian Connectivityfrom the FactoryTalk View installation package on the FactoryTalk View Studio or SE Client computer.
- The following steps vary depending on whether you have used theSystem Explorer(Start>Rockwell Software>System Explorer) to configure the FactoryTalk Historian SE server, FactoryTalk Historian ME module, Asset Framework server, or PI Server.
- If you have usedSystem Explorerto configure the servers, create a connection for each server type (excluding PI Server).
- For the FactoryTalk Historian SE serverIn the FactoryTalk View StudioExplorerwindow, go toSystem>Connections, right-clickHistorical Data, selectNew Historian Server Connection, and then select a server or collective from the list in theNew Historian Server Connectiondialog.
- For the FactoryTalk Historian ME moduleIn the FactoryTalk View StudioExplorerwindow, go toSystem>Connections, right-clickHistorical Data ME, selectNew Historian ME Server Connection, and then select a server or collective from the list in theHistorian ME Serverdialog.
- For the Asset Framework serverIn the FactoryTalk View StudioExplorerwindow, go toSystem>Connections>Historical Data, right-clickAsset Framework, selectNew Historian AF Server Connection, and then select the Asset Framework server in theNew Historian AF Server Connectiondialog.
- For the PI ServerThere is no need to create a connection in theExplorerwindow.
- If you have not usedSystem Explorerto configure the servers, the steps vary depending on the server type.
- For the FactoryTalk Historian SE serverWhen creating a server connection in theExplorerwindow, select a server or collective from the list in theNew Historian Server Connectiondialog.
- For a server, if it doesn't show in the list, you can manually enter the server host name or run the migration tool.
- For a collective, you must run the migration tool.
The migration toolKSTMigrationTool.exeis in %PIHOME64%AF. Use this command to run itKSTMigrationTool.exe /forceoverwrite.For more information, see FactoryTalk Historian SE documentation. - For the FactoryTalk Historian ME module
- Create a server connection in theExplorerwindow.
- Run the migration toolKSTMigrationTool.exeusing this commandKSTMigrationTool.exe /forceoverwrite.
