Establish FactoryTalk Historian and PI Server connectivity

To retrieve historical data in a FactoryTalk Historian SE server or PI Server using data grid objects, or to trend historical data in
a FactoryTalk Historian SE server, Asset Framework server, FactoryTalk Historian ME module, or PI Server
using TrendPro or XY Plot, you must first establish connectivity to the data sources.
To establish connectivity to the data sources
  1. Make sure to install
    FactoryTalk Historian Connectivity
from the FactoryTalk View installation package on the FactoryTalk View Studio or SE Client computer.
  2. The following steps vary depending on whether you have used the
    System Explorer
    (
    Start
    >
    Rockwell Software
    >
    System Explorer
) to configure the FactoryTalk Historian SE server, FactoryTalk Historian ME module, Asset Framework server, or PI Server.
    • If you have used
      System Explorer
to configure the servers, create a connection for each server type (excluding PI Server).
      • For the FactoryTalk Historian SE server
        In the FactoryTalk View Studio
        Explorer
        window, go to
        System
        >
        Connections
        , right-click
        Historical Data
        , select
        New Historian Server Connection
, and then select a server or collective from the list in the
        New Historian Server Connection
        dialog.
      • For the FactoryTalk Historian ME module
        In the FactoryTalk View Studio
        Explorer
        window, go to
        System
        >
        Connections
        , right-click
        Historical Data ME
        , select
        New Historian ME Server Connection
, and then select a server or collective from the list in the
        Historian ME Server
        dialog.
      • For the Asset Framework server
        In the FactoryTalk View Studio
        Explorer
        window, go to
        System
        >
        Connections
        >
        Historical Data
        , right-click
        Asset Framework
        , select
        New Historian AF Server Connection
, and then select the Asset Framework server in the
        New Historian AF Server Connection
        dialog.
      • For the PI Server
There is no need to create a connection in the
        Explorer
        window.
    • If you have not used
      System Explorer
to configure the servers, the steps vary depending on the server type.
      • For the FactoryTalk Historian SE server
When creating a server connection in the
        Explorer
window, select a server or collective from the list in the
        New Historian Server Connection
        dialog.
        • For a server, if it doesn't show in the list, you can manually enter the server host name or run the migration tool.
        • For a collective, you must run the migration tool.
        The migration tool
        KSTMigrationTool.exe
is in %PIHOME64%AF. Use this command to run it
        KSTMigrationTool.exe /forceoverwrite
        .
For more information, see FactoryTalk Historian SE documentation.
      • For the FactoryTalk Historian ME module
        1. Create a server connection in the
          Explorer
          window.
        2. Run the migration tool
          KSTMigrationTool.exe
          using this command
          KSTMigrationTool.exe /forceoverwrite
          .
For more information, see FactoryTalk Historian ME documentation.
      • For the PI Server
        1. Add the PI Server using the
          PISDKUtility(64-bit)
          .
For more information, see the utility's Help.
        2. Run the migration tool
          KSTMigrationTool.exe
          using this command
          KSTMigrationTool.exe /forceoverwrite
          .
