Default security code settings for the HMI project components

The HMI project components that can be secured at runtime, have default security code settings assigned to them when they are created. These are:
  • Graphic displays
    - assigned an asterisk (*) by default. All users and groups that have been assigned at least one security code in the Runtime Security editor, can open the display in the FactoryTalk View SE Client at runtime.
To change the default security code assigned to a graphic display, select the display in the Graphics editor and open the Properties tab of the Display Settings dialog box.
  • OLE object verbs
    - assigned an asterisk (*) by default. All users and groups that have been assigned at least one security code in the Runtime Security editor can open the display in the FactoryTalk View SE Client at runtime.
  • HMI tags
    - assigned an asterisk (*) by default. All users and groups that have been assigned at least one security code in the Runtime Security editor, can read or write to these tags at runtime.
To change an HMI tag's security code, edit it in the HMI Tags editor. Apply security to an HMI tag to restrict writing to it. Users will still have read access.
  • Secured commands
    - Unspecified_Command is assigned an asterisk (*) by default in the Runtime Secured Commands editor. Any command or macro that is not in the list in the Runtime Secured Commands editor, is unspecified. When the asterisk is assigned to the Unspecified_Command entry, all users and groups in the Runtime Security accounts list have access to all commands that are not in the Runtime Secured Commands list. To limit access to a command or macro, add it to the spreadsheet and assign a security code from A through P to it.
  • User accounts
    - the default user account All Users, is assigned all FactoryTalk View security codes. Also, any user and user group accounts you add to the accounts list in the Runtime Security editor are also initially assigned all codes.
You can change the FactoryTalk View security codes assigned to a user or group in the Permissions tab of the Security Settings dialog box. This is opened when you select a user or group in the account list in the Runtime Security editor, and click the Security Accounts button.
If FactoryTalk Security has been set up for the application, users will need to have FactoryTalk Security accounts set up for them and permissions granted so that they can perform actions on application components, such as opening displays and making changes. FactoryTalk Services Platform Help
