Editing a base object
Editing a base object on a global object display in the
Global Objects
folder, is essentially the same as editing an object on a standard display in the Displays
folder. The only differences are that certain options are not available on the Graphics
menus, such as OLE Object and ActiveX Control on the Objects
menu, because these items are not supported in global object displays. To edit base objects, you can open the global object display that contains them in the
Global Objects
folder. You can also open a global object display from a standard display via a reference object. To open a global object display from a reference object, in the
Graphics
editor, on a standard display, right-click the reference object whose base object you are going to edit and select Edit Base Object
.When editing a base object, note that:
- If you change a base object's Name property or you delete a base object, this will break the links between the base object and any reference objects on standard displays that refer to it.
- If the LinkBaseObject property for a reference object, points to a base object that no longer exists or is unavailable, the reference object is replaced by a red X on a white background.
- If multiple base objects are grouped, the group can be referenced from a standard display, as well as the individual objects in the group.
- If a base object that is part of a grouped base object is deleted, the corresponding reference object in the grouped reference object will be deleted, but the link to the grouped reference object will not be treated as broken.
- The display settings (specified in the Properties and Behavior tabs of the Display Settings dialog box) behave the same way for global object displays as they do for standard graphic displays, but are not linked. When you add a global object display to the Displays folder, the display settings for the resulting standard display will be the same as for the global object display. However, if you change the display settings in a global display, the settings in the linked standard display are not changed.
