Logging on to an SE application from an SE Client

To log on to a
FactoryTalk View SE
Client, the user logging on must be:
  • In the
    FactoryTalk View
    Runtime Security accounts list.
  • Allowed to run applications in the
    FactoryTalk View SE
    Client.
When you install
FactoryTalk View SE
software, the All Users account is added automatically to the
FactoryTalk View SE
Runtime Security user accounts list. This gives all users full access to
FactoryTalk View SE
applications at runtime, without needing to log on.
If FactoryTalk Security has been used to apply additional security to an application at the FactoryTalk Directory, the Login dialog box will be displayed when the
FactoryTalk View SE
Client is started, if any of the following is true:
  • Single sign-on is not turned on.
  • Single sign-on is turned on, but there is no user logged on to the Factory Directory, and the current Windows user is not set up as a FactoryTalk Windows-linked user.
  • Single sign-on is turned on, but the current FactoryTalk Windows-linked user does not have the necessary security permissions to run the
    FactoryTalk View SE
    Client.
If single sign-on has been turned on, and there is already a user logged on to FactoryTalk Directory, the system checks that user's credentials first, when the client starts up. If the current user is in the
FactoryTalk View
Runtime Security user accounts list and has been granted the appropriate FactoryTalk Security permissions, no further log on is necessary and the
FactoryTalk View SE
client opens without the Login dialog box being presented.
Once logged in successfully, whatever
FactoryTalk View SE
security codes that have been assigned and FactoryTalk Security permissions that have been set up, are in effect. All commands issued from the client, including commands in macros, are checked against the codes assigned to the user who is logged on.
If the user attempting to log on is a Windows-linked user, they must provide the domain name with the user name, if the Windows-linked user is on a different domain than the Windows Desktop user, using this syntax
domainName\userName
.
If single sign-on is turned on, changing the
FactoryTalk View SE
Client user does not change the user currently logged on to the FactoryTalk Directory. To change the FactoryTalk user during the current Windows session, use the
Log On to FactoryTalk
utility. To start this utility, select
Start
>
Rockwell Software
>
Log On to FactoryTalk
.
