Copy an HMI server

Before you copy an HMI server to a new computer, for example when you deploy an application to the production environment, make sure that the FactoryTalk View SE Server software is installed, and the location of the FactoryTalk Directory is specified. For information about installing the HMI server software, see the
FactoryTalk View Site Edition Installation Guide
.
IMPORTANT:
When you move HMI project files, do not cut and paste the folder containing the HMI project files to a temporary folder during the setup of the application, because the temporary folder might not have the necessary security settings, and could result in you being unable to edit graphics on the remote computer after the HMI project files are moved from the temporary folder to the remote computer.
To copy the HMI server's project files to a new location:
  1. On the source computer, make sure that the HMI server is not running.
  2. Select
    Start
    > Rockwell Software > HMI Server Backup and Restore
    to open the tool.
    TIP:
If running FactoryTalk View 6.1 or later on a 64-bit Windows operating system, you must first convert your tag database before you attempt to copy your legacy applications.
  3. Use the
    HMI Server Backup and Restore
tool to select and create a copy of the HMI server project files and folder.
    TIP:
If copying an older version HMI server that contains
    FactoryTalk Historian SE
    pens:
    • The Trend will not be converted to the newer version. After copying the HMI server, you must open the Display (in design mode) that contains the older
      FactoryTalk Historian SE
pens and the pens will be converted to the newer version.
    • If there is more than one
      FactoryTalk Historian SE
server configured in FactoryTalk Directory, the first
      FactoryTalk Historian SE
server name will be saved into the trend Model name (on the Pens tab) as <
      FactoryTalk Historian SE
      server name>.
    • If there are no
      FactoryTalk Historian SE
      servers configured in
      FactoryTalk Directory
when copying, the Trend version will be converted to the new version but the
      FactoryTalk Historian
server name will not be saved and the Model name is NULL (on the Pens tab)
  4. On the target computer, use the
    HMI Server Backup and Restore
tool to restore the HMI server project files and folder. By default, the HMI projects folder is in C:\Users\Public\Documents\RSView Enterprise\SE\HMI projects.
  5. On the target computer, open the application in
    FactoryTalk View Studio
    or the
    Administration Console
    .
  6. In the
    Explorer
    window, right-click the
    HMI Server
    and then click
    Properties
    to open the
    HMI Server Properties
    dialog box.
  7. In the
    General
    tab, in the
    Computer hosting the server
field, type the name of the computer.
  8. Click
    OK
    .
