Create an area - network distributed

You can create an area in the root folder of a network distributed application or within another area. The root folder of the application, and any area, can only contain one HMI server each. If your application has more than one HMI server, you must create enough areas to accommodate them.
To create an area:
  1. In
    FactoryTalk View Studio
, in the Explorer window, right-click the application and select
    New Area
    .
  2. In the
    New Area
dialog box, specify a name and description and click
    OK
    .
The dialog box includes the following options:
  • Name
Type a name for the area. This will appear beside the area’s icon and folder in the Explorer. It will also be included when making references from other areas to components, such as displays and tags, in this area.
Extended ASCII characters or Unicode characters are not supported in the names for applications, areas, HMI servers, data servers, HMI tags,
    FactoryTalk Linx
shortcuts, and FactoryTalk View Studio application files (.SED).
  • Description
Type a description for the area. This will be displayed in the Area Properties dialog box. To view the Area Properties dialog box, right-click the area’s icon or name and then select Properties.
Remarks
  • You can create a sub-area within an area by right-clicking the area folder and then completing the above procedure.
  • Area names can only contain alpha-numeric characters, spaces, and underscores.
  • The name for any area, data server, or HMI server should be unique.
  • Areas are displayed in the explorer tree in alphabetical order. In an application that contains areas and data servers at the same level, the areas are listed before the data servers, with the areas and data servers listed in alphabetical order. If data servers and an HMI server are at the same level in the explorer, the data servers are listed in alphabetical order, before the HMI server.
