Configure HART device information

Use
Set Device Information
 to configure the tag name, descriptor and message.
Prerequisites
  • Verify that you are online and not in Run mode.
To configure HART device information
  1. On the tab for the device, expand
    Channels
    , and then expand
    ChX
    .
  2. Select
    HART Device Information
    .
  3. In the
    HART Device Information
     view, select
    Set Device Information
    .
  4. (optional) In
    Set Device Information
    , select
    Copy from Device
    to copy and display the tag, message, and descriptor from the HART device.
  5. Customize these parameters as needed:
    TIP:
    The values must include digits 0 to 9, uppercase letters A to Z, and common punctuation characters.
    • Tag
      A short name to identify the HART device. The name may contain a maximum of eight characters.
      The tag name is displayed in the asset management software, on Handheld HART communicators, and in the
      HART Device Information
       view.
    • Message
      Additional information about the device, such as the location of the device or service history. The message can contain maximum of 32 characters.
    • Descriptor
      Additional information that may be used by the plant or asset management software to identify the HART device. The descriptor can contain a maximum of 16 characters.
  6. Select
    Set
     to write the tag, message, and descriptor to the HART device.
