Device Information view parameters

The
Device Information
 view includes these parameters.
TIP:
No online data is shown when the device is being created or in the offline mode. The parameters and values are based on the device being configured. The parameters and values that do not apply to the device are hidden.
Parameter
Description
Identification
Displays information that identifies the device:
  • Vendor
  • Product type
  • Product name
    (read from the device)
  • Catalog number
  • Series
  • Revision
  • Product code
  • Serial number
  • Manufacture date
  • Warranty number
Status - Major/Minor fault
Displays whether there is a major and minor fault.
For a digital device, these values are available:
  • EEPROM fault
  • Backplane fault
  • None
For an analog device, these values are available:
  • Comm. Lost with owner
  • Channel fault
  • None
For other devices, these values are available:
  • None
  • Unrecoverable
  • Recoverable
Status - Internal state
Displays the device's current operational state. Possible values include:
  • Self-test
  • Flash update
  • Communication fault
  • Unconnected
  • Flash configuration bad
  • Major fault
  • Run mode
  • Program mode
  • (16#xxxx) unknown
Tip: If the wrong device is selected from
Add device
, a hexadecimal value is displayed. A textual description of this state is only given when the provided device identity is a match with the actual device.
Status - Configured
Indicates whether the device was configured by the owner controller connected to it.
Once a device is configured, it stays configured until the device is reset or power is cycled, even if the owner drops connection to the device.
This applies only to I/O devices and does not apply to adapters, scanners, bridges, or other communication devices.

 indicating whether the device is owned by a controller.
This applies only to I/O devices and does not apply to adapters, scanners, bridges, or other communication devices.
Status - Device identity
Displays whether the physical device matches or mismatches with the configuration in the
Overview
 view.
  • Match
    . The physical device agrees with what is specified in the
    Overview
     view, and all of these must agree:
    • Vendor
    • Device type
       (the combination of Product type and Product code for a particular Vendor)
    • Major revision
  • Mismatch
    . If the physical device does not agree with what is specified in the
    Overview
     view.
Tip: Device identity does not take into account the
Electronic keying
 or
Minor revision
 settings in the
Overview
 view. The Generic devices, such as the 1756 devices, always show a Mismatch because the configured Generic Key does not match any target device.
Status - Protection mode
Displays the device protection when online. The protection mode depends on the device and may include:
  • Explicit
  • Implicit
  • None
Tip: When the device is offline or if a communication failure to the device occurs, the field is blank.
Coordinated System Time (CST) - Timer Hardware (when enabled)
Displays whether the timer's hardware is

 indicating whether the device's time is coordinated with the master.
Diagnostics
Opens the
Device Diagnostics
 dialog box for diagnostic information.
Clear faults
Clears current major fault and minor fault of the device.
Refresh
Retrieves and displays the latest values from the device.
Device Locator
Opens the
Device Locator
 dialog box to specify the blink duration for identifying the device.
Reset device
Initiates a reset operation on the device, which returns the device to its power-up state by emulating the cycling of power.
IMPORTANT: Resetting a device closes all connections to or through the device, which may result in loss of control.
Tip:
  • Some devices may return an error if a reset request is attempted.
  • A controller cannot be reset.
  • Safety capable devices can be reset when the device is configured with a safety connection. Otherwise, it may return an error if a reset is attempted.
