Configure an Ethernet/IP port with auto port speed

To configure an Ethernet communication port, perform the following steps:
  1. In the
    Network Configuration Type
group box, specify the network type (Dynamic or Static).
    TIP: If you select a
    Dynamic network type
, you can perform step 2, and then steps 10 through 13 only. If you select a
    Static network type
, you can perform steps 3 through 13.
  2. Select one of the two interface configuration values (BOOTP or DHCP), determining the method that the device will use to obtain an initial IP address at start-up.
TIP: If the address is accessed through a Network Address Translation (NAT) device, a warning message shows on the
    Port Configuration
tab. Input the private IP address in the
    IP Address
box. If you change the private IP address, you must change the NAT device configuration accordingly.
  3. Specify the IP Address of the device.
  4. Specify the
    Network Mask
(or subnet mask) of the device.
  5. Specify a default
    Gateway Address
, indicating the IP address of the default gateway of the device.
  6. Specify the address of the
    Primary Name Server
(or DNS server). This address is used to resolve host names.
  7. Specify the address of the
    Secondary Name Server
(or DNS server). This address is used when the primary name server is not available or unable to resolve a host name.
  8. Enter a
    Domain Name
(maximum of 48 characters). This name is used when resolving host names that are not fully qualified.
  9. Enter a
    Host Name
    (maximum of 64 characters).
  10. If you want to read the port speed and duplex values automatically from the device (these values cannot be edited), select the
    Auto Negotiate
check box. If you want to edit the port speed and duplex values, clear the
    Auto Negotiate
check box and perform the following steps:
    1. Select the Current Port Speed (10, 100, or 1000 Mbps).
    2. Select the Current Duplex configuration mode (Half or Full).
  11. Click
    Apply
to download changes to the module.
TIP: If you chose to manually select the post speed and duplex mode, and you click
    Apply
, the network communication will be briefly interrupted. For some devices, you must enter a password to save the changes if the device is configured to require a password.
  12. Review the
    Status
field for information about the communication port (
    Network Interface Configured
    ,
    Network Interface Not Configured
    ).
  13. Click
    OK
    to complete the configuration.
