Register device description files

You can register the device description files of hardware devices, including EDS and IODD files, by launching the

Device Description File Installation Tool

.

Before you begin to register the device description file of a hardware device, you must have a valid and complete device description file of the hardware device. To search and download the device description file of a specific hardware device, visit Rockwell Automation Network Resources. In addition, if an icon file (*.ico) exists for the hardware device, save it with the same name as the device description file in the same directory. You can save one or more device description files (and the related icon files) in one directory.
