Set up OPC UA alarm monitoring

Use OPC UA alarms to monitor alarm statuses from third-party OPC UA servers.
Overview: Set up OPC UA alarm monitoring
  1. Define and configure alarms in the third-party OPC UA server.
  2. Add
    FactoryTalk Linx
    OPC UA Connector connecting to the third-party OPC UA server.
  3. Set up and enable alarms in
    FactoryTalk Linx
    OPC UA Connector.
Step 1. Define and configure alarms in the third-party OPC UA server
For OPC UA alarm monitoring, alarms originate from the third-party OPC UA server. For more information on how to define and configure alarms, see the user document of your OPC UA server.
Step 2. Add
FactoryTalk Linx
OPC UA Connector connecting to the third-party OPC UA server
Use
FactoryTalk Administration Console
or
FactoryTalk View Studio
to add
FactoryTalk Linx
OPC UA Connector to an application in the
FactoryTalk Directory
.
Data servers serve tags or data items contained in OPC UA servers. Clients that need access to data items such as
FactoryTalk View Studio
use data server application elements referenced from the
FactoryTalk Directory
to locate the computers that are hosting OPC UA servers.
This step provides a link between the third-party OPC UA servers and the
FactoryTalk Directory
.
In this example, use
FactoryTalk View Studio
to add the OPC UA Connector to the application.
  1. Run
    FactoryTalk View Studio
    and open or create either a Network application or a Local application.
  2. Expand the
    FactoryTalk
    Explorer window, and then right-click an application or area.
  3. Click
    Add New Server >
    OPC UA Server
    .
Step 3. Set up and enable alarms in
FactoryTalk Linx
OPC UA Connector
Use
FactoryTalk Linx
OPC UA Connector to set up and enable alarms.
  1. In the
    FactoryTalk Linx
    OPC UA Connector
    dialog box, click
    OPC UA Servers
    .
  2. Under
    General
    , specify the endpoint URL to the third-party OPC UA server.
  3. Under
    Alarm Settings
    , select
    Enable alarm and event support
    .

    OK
    .
