I cannot create an account because it already exists, but it is not visible

While creating an account, if you receive an error that says the account already exists, but you don't see the account anywhere, it might be because a security policy
Show deleted accounts in user list
is disabled.
To solve the problem, enable this policy setting.
  1. In
    Explorer
    , expand
System > Policies > System Policies
    and then open
    Security Policy Properties
    .
  2. Under
    Account Policy Settings
    , for
Show deleted accounts in user list
    select
    Enabled
    .
  3. Select
    OK.
Recreating accounts
All accounts are identified by means of a unique identifier that is separate from the account name. When an account is deleted, the account's access rights are deleted, but the account's unique identifier is not deleted. This means that even if an account with the identical name is created, the new account will not automatically have access to the same resources that the old one did.
When creating another account with the same name, also recreate the security settings of the account by either adding the account to a group that already has security settings defined for it or creating permissions for an account when securing a resource.
