I cannot update device shortcuts in FactoryTalk Linx

Possible cause and solution:
  • A computer account for the computer hosting the
    Rockwell Automation
    Device Server was not created.
    Even if the security policy
Require computer accounts for all client machines
is disabled, create computer accounts for any computers hosting servers — for example, Terminal Servers,
    Rockwell Automation
    Device Servers (
    FactoryTalk Linx
    ),
    OPC
data servers, Tag Alarm and Event Servers, or HMI servers. Without the server computer accounts, the
    FactoryTalk
Network Directory Server cannot locate these servers on the network and configuration of the servers from client computers on the network is not possible.
  • The client computer editing the device shortcut might have disconnected from the
    FactoryTalk
    Network Directory.
Ensure that the client computer and the
    FactoryTalk
Network Directory Server computer are connected and can find each other on the network.
  • The
    FactoryTalk
    Network Directory was recently restored.
Check that the computer name of the
    FactoryTalk Linx
is correct, and then restart the computer running
    FactoryTalk Linx
    .
