Considerations when using FactoryTalk Linx with FactoryTalk Security

Observe the following before working with
FactoryTalk Linx
and
FactoryTalk Security
.
FactoryTalk Linx
checks for security information in two main areas:
  • The associated computer when operating within:
    • Machine Edition Design (Local) Tab tree
    • Site Edition Distributed Primary/Secondary Tab tree
    • Site Edition Stand-alone Primary Tab tree
    • Communications Tab in (Application) Explorer
  • The parent area or application when operating within:
    • Server property pages (General / Redundancy)
    • Machine Edition Runtime (Target) Tab tree
    • Device shortcuts
    • Offline Tag File
During these security checks,
FactoryTalk Linx
checks the following actions:
  • Common Actions
    :
    • Read: Enables/disables ability to view configurations
    • Write: Enables/disables ability to modify configurations (add/delete drivers/networks/devices, change driver/device parameters, modify shortcut definitions, add/delete shortcuts)
  • FactoryTalk Linx
    -specific
    Custom Action
    :
    • Network Browse: Enables/disables the ability to browse drivers, networks, and devices
Keep in mind that there are permissions external to
FactoryTalk Linx
that affect the ability to administer
FactoryTalk Linx
:
  • The permission for the
    Common Action Create Children
must be set to Allow in the parent area or application where you want to add a
    FactoryTalk Linx
server to be able to add a new server.
  • The permission for the
    Common Action List Children
must be set to Allow at the root of the system tree to be able to view any child nodes below it.
    TIP:
There may be different permissions set for global (network or distributed) and local (Machine Edition or Site Edition Stand-alone) directories. Remember, you can have both a local directory (one that is accessed from that computer only) and a network directory configuration (one that is part of a distributed system) on the same computer. You may require different access levels for each configuration.
  • There are no
    FactoryTalk Linx
    -specific policies.
