Add an alias (DeviceNet I/O)
Add an alias to assign a user-specified identifier (alias) to each data point in a DeviceNet I/O configuration.
To add an alias in a DeviceNet I/O configuration
- From the Communication Setup editor, right-click on the DeviceNet scanner and click the I/O Configuration tab.
- Click + to expand the scanner.
- Click + on either Input or Output to view its address blocks and their respective connections.
- Right-click an Address Block and select Add Alias to display the Alias Properties dialog box.
- Select the Alias Data Type from the tree in the left-hand pane. The appropriate property settings appear in the Alias Properties dialog box.Refer to the links at the bottom of this topic for information on these Alias Data Type settings.
- Set the appropriate fields for the selected Alias Data Type.
- Click Apply to save the alias to the configuration and leave the dialog box open to continue adding aliases.
- When you are done adding aliases, click OK to close the Alias Properties dialog box.IMPORTANT:A value of 0 is assigned to any bit in the output table whose value has not been user-specified. Therefore, if an output alias does not have an initial value specified, or if an alias has not been defined for an area of the output table, a value of 0 is assigned to it, and a warning message will be displayed. However, the DeviceNet Scanner will still be able to enter run mode. You must be aware of the effect this may have on the output devices in your application since a value of 0 is applied immediately when the DeviceNet Scanner goes into run mode.
- Click OK on the I/O Configuration tab to save the configuration and close the dialog box.
