Add an alias (ControlNet I/O)

After adding an address block and a connection, you may add an alias to a data point in your local ControlNet configuration.
To add an alias to a data point in your (local) ControlNet configuration
  1. From the
    Communication Setup
    editor,
    right-click
on the ControlNet scanner and click
    Properties
    .
  2. Click the
    I/O Configuration
    tab.
  3. Click
    +
    to expand the scanner.
  4. Click
    +
    on either
    Input
    or
    Output
to view its address blocks and their respective connections.
  5. Right-click
    on
    Inputs
    , then click
    Add Alias
    to display the
    Alias Properties
    dialog box.
  6. Enter a unique
    Name
for the data point. Names are case-insensitive, have a maximum of 254 characters, and can use any character except: @, :, /, [, ], ., comma, or space.
  7. Choose the
    Alias Data Type
    .
Note that the Alias Data Type selected affects the options available on the Alias Properties dialog box. Refer to the links at the end of this topic for detailed information.
  8. Specify the
    Start Word
    of the data point.
    TIP:
No validation checking is performed to ensure you have not initialized an overlapped variable with a different value somewhere else.
  9. Click
    Overlaps
    to display the
    Address
    ,
    Type
    , and
    Alias Name
    of any overlapping aliases.
    TIP:
The RIO configuration tool does not ensure that you have not configured overlapping aliases.
  10. When you are finished, click
    OK
    to close the
    Alias Properties
    dialog box.
    IMPORTANT:
A value of 0 is assigned to any bit in the output table whose value has not been user-specified. Therefore, if an output alias does not have an initial value specified, or if an alias has not been defined for an area of the output table, a value of 0 is assigned to it, and a warning message will be displayed. However, the ControlNet Scanner is still able to enter run mode. You must be aware of the effect this may have on the output devices in your application since a value of 0 is applied immediately when the ControlNet Scanner goes into run mode.
