Monitor alarms at runtime

To interact with alarms and events during runtime, connect a
FactoryTalk View
Site Edition Client to an application. Run the
FactoryTalk View
SE Client and monitor the graphic displays that host the Alarm and Event objects.
Connect to the application and monitor alarms
  1. For a network station application or network distributed application, if you have not already done so, run the Specify
    FactoryTalk Directory
Location tool on each client computer and point to the Network Directory Server computer.
For a local station application on a stand-alone computer, it is not necessary to specify the
    FactoryTalk Directory
    Server.
  2. On one of the client computers, run
    FactoryTalk View
    Site Edition Client.
  3. Click
    Create a
    FactoryTalk View
    SE Client configuration file
to create a new configuration file.
  4. The wizard prompts you for required information and, when finished, creates a file with a .CLI extension that holds the server and project information.
    For step-by-step instructions, see
    FactoryTalk Alarms and Events
    System Configuration Guide
    , available from the
    Help > Online Books
    menu in
    FactoryTalk View Studio
    .
  5. On each
    FactoryTalk View
SE client computer on the network, either copy the *.CLI configuration file that was created previously or create a new configuration file.
    The default location is
    C:\Users\Public\Documents\RSView Enterprise\SE\Client\ConfigurationFileName.cli
    .
  6. Run the
    FactoryTalk View
SE Client software on each client computer to connect to the application.
  7. Monitor the graphic displays that include Alarm and Event objects:
    • Alarm and Event Banner:
View and interact with the most recent and highest priority alarms.
    • Alarm and Event Summary:
View unacknowledged alarms and acknowledge, disable, suppress, shelve, unshelve, filter, and sort alarms with various functionality.
    • Alarm and Event Log Viewer:
View the historical alarms and events logged to a
      SQL Server
      database.
    • Alarm Status Explorer:
View alarms based on states. Enable, disable, suppress, unsuppress, shelve, or unshelve alarms.
    • Automatic Diagnostic Event Summary:
View diagnostic events collected by Rockwell Automation controllers that support the Automatic Diagnostics feature. Suppress, unsuppress, filter, and sort diagnostic events.
      During runtime, if the
      SQL Server
database is disconnected, it takes about 40 seconds to switch between the graphic displays.
