Reset latched alarms

Digital alarms can be latched. Once a latched alarm becomes active, it remains active, even if its tag value returns to normal. To make a latched alarm inactive once the alarm condition has returned to normal, the operator must deliberately reset the alarm. The operator can only reset the latched alarm if the tag value has returned to normal. If the tag value has not returned to normal, attempting to reset the alarm generates an error.
Latched alarm conditions use the TRIP_L Condition Name.
When the operator resets a latched alarm, the alarm state changes to:
  • Normal
  • Acknowledged — the operator does not have to acknowledge the alarm separately. Resetting a latched alarm automatically acknowledges it.
To reset an alarm
  1. In the Alarm and Event Summary event list, do one of the following:
    • Select the alarms you want to reset, and then click the
      Reset selected alarm
      Toolbar_ResetSelected toolbar button.
    • Select the alarms you want to reset, right-click the selection, and then click
      Reset
      .
  2. In the
    Reset Alarm
    window, in the
    Comment
box, type a comment, and then click
    Reset
. The comment is displayed in the alarm and event history log.
When a single alarm is selected, the Reset selected alarm toolbar button and menu item are only enabled if the alarm is configured to be latched.
TIP:
The Alarm and Event Summary can be configured to hide the
Reset selected alarm
toolbar button, which also hides the equivalent operation on the context (shortcut) menu.
