Change your password
Password changes can occur when required by an administrator or when a user decides to change the password. If the password to the
FactoryTalk
account or Windows
-linked account expired, or if the administrator set the account to require a password change, a change password prompt appears at initial logon. Additionally, when logging on, there is the option to manually change the password of the FactoryTalk
or Windows
-linked account.Password information, including how often the password must change, password length, and complexity are dictated by security policy settings managed by the administrator. See Modify Password Policy Settings for more information about how to modify the settings.
To change a password
- Go to>FactoryTalkToolsLog On to.FactoryTalk
- In theDirectorylist, select theFactoryTalk Directoryserver:
- SelectNetworkto change the password used to access theFactoryTalknetwork directory server.
- SelectLocalto change the password used to access theFactoryTalklocal directory.
- Users with passwords forbotha network directory and a local directory, must change each password separately.
- To change the password for aWindows-linked account, select theFactoryTalk Directoryand then skip to step 4.
- Do one:
- Whennotlogged on to theFactoryTalk Directory, selectLog On.
- When logged on to theFactoryTalk Directory, selectChange Logon.
- InLog On to, do not enter a user name or password; instead selectFactoryTalkChange Password.
- InChange Password, type user name, your old and new passwords, and selectOK. To change the password to aWindows-linked account, include the domain name with the user name, in the formatDOMAIN\username.TIP:The maximum password length is 64 characters. However, the dialog box only displays 35 characters. Characters not shown are still included in the password.
