Change your password

Password changes can occur when required by an administrator or when a user decides to change the password. If the password to the
FactoryTalk
 account or
Windows
-linked account expired, or if the administrator set the account to require a password change, a change password prompt appears at initial logon. Additionally, when logging on, there is the option to manually change the password of the
FactoryTalk
 or
Windows
-linked account.
Password information, including how often the password must change, password length, and complexity are dictated by security policy settings managed by the administrator. See Modify Password Policy Settings for more information about how to modify the settings.
To change a password
  1. Go to
    FactoryTalk
     Tools
     >
    Log On to
    FactoryTalk
    .
  2. In the
    Directory
     list, select the
    FactoryTalk Directory
     server:
    • Select
      Network
       to change the password used to access the
      FactoryTalk
       network directory server.
    • Select
      Local
       to change the password used to access the
      FactoryTalk
       local directory.
    • Users with passwords for
      both
       a network directory and a local directory, must change each password separately.
    • To change the password for a
      Windows
      -linked account, select the
      FactoryTalk Directory
       and then skip to step 4.
  3. Do one:
    • When
      not
       logged on to the
      FactoryTalk Directory
      , select
      Log On
      .
    • When logged on to the
      FactoryTalk Directory
      , select
      Change Logon
      .
  4. In
    Log On to
    FactoryTalk
    , do not enter a user name or password; instead select
    Change Password
    .
  5. In
    Change Password
    , type user name, your old and new passwords, and select
    OK
    . To change the password to a
    Windows
    -linked account, include the domain name with the user name, in the format
    DOMAIN\username
    .
    TIP:
    The maximum password length is 64 characters. However, the dialog box only displays 35 characters. Characters not shown are still included in the password.
