Configure a controller project
Before creating a new
Logix Designer
project, configure controller and security settings.To configure a controller project
- In theRevisionlist, select a firmware revision for the controller. The latest revision of firmware is the default.
- In theSecurity Authoritylist, select a security option:
- No Protection- All users can view and edit the project.
- - Only users authenticated throughFactoryTalk SecurityFactoryTalk Securitycan view and edit the project.
- (optional) Select Use only the selected Security Authority for authentication and authorization to associate this project with a specific Security Authority. When this check box is selected, users interacting with this project must be authenticated and authorized by the same Security Authority that was used to secure the project. Otherwise, unauthenticated users must rely on Guest User permissions.TIP:Guest User permissions are cached within the project. TheLogix Designerapplication uses Guest User permissions when the project is opened but not connected to theFactoryTalkSecurity Authority that secures the project. By default, all Guest User permissions are denied. Guest User permissions are configured in theFactoryTalk Administration Console.
- SelectLogical Name <Controller Name>orPermission Setto apply specific permissions to the controller.SelectLogical Name <Controller Name>to applyFactoryTalk Services Platformthat has the same name as the controller. If there is no existing Logical Name that matches the controller name, a new Logical Name is created with the controller's name. The new Logical Name inherits permissions from its parent resource. SeeFactoryTalkHelp for more information on how networks and devices inherit security permissions.SelectPermission Setto apply a specific set of permissions to the controller. The permission sets in the list are maintained inFactoryTalk Services Platformand identify a set of actions that are allowed or denied for a particular user and computer combination.
- (optional) In theDescriptionbox, enter a description for the controller.TIP:The description is limited to 128 bytes. Standard ASCII characters consume 1 byte per character, allowing for 128 characters. Characters in some languages require up to three bytes per character, resulting in less than 128 characters.
