Configure a ControlLogix 5580 controller project

Before creating a new
Logix Designer
 project, you must configure controller and security settings.
ControlLogix
 5580 controller projects display unique configuration options.
To configure a
ControlLogix
 5580 controller project
  1. In the
    Revision
     list, select a firmware revision for the controller. The latest revision of firmware is the default.
  2. In the
    Chassis
     list, select the type of chassis in which the controller resides.
  3. In the
    Slot
     list, select the slot of the chassis in which the controller resides. Slot numbering begins with 0.
  4. In the
    Security Authority
     list, select a security option:
    • No Protection
       - All users can view and edit the project.
    • FactoryTalk Security
       - Only users authenticated through FactoryTalk Security can view and edit the project.
  5. (optional) Select
    Use only the selected Security Authority for authentication and authorization
     to not allow user to be authorized using other methods.
  6. (optional) In the
    Description
     box, type a description for the controller.
    TIP:
    The description is limited to 128 bytes. Standard ASCII characters consume 1 byte per character, allowing for 128 characters. Characters in some languages require up to three bytes per character, resulting in less than 128 characters.
