Connection view parameters

The
Connection
view includes these parameters:
Parameter
Description
Requested Packet Interval (RPI)
Indicates the data exchange rate between the controller and the device.
Valid ranges and default values are dependent on the device.
The RPI value cannot be edited under these conditions:
  • The minimum RPI is the same as the maximum RPI.
  • The controller is in Run mode.
Tip
: Changing the RPI value while online causes the connection to the device to close and re-open.
Use unicast connection over EtherNet/IP
Select the type of connection to establish over the network, Unicast or Multicast.
For non-redundant controllers, the default value is Unicast when the target device supports unicast; otherwise, the default value is Multicast.
For redundant controllers, the default value is Multicast when the target device supports multicast; otherwise, the default value is Unicast.
Tip
:
  • Changing between a Unicast and Multicast connection while online causes the connection to the device to close and re-open.
  • Changing to a Multicast connection will fail to reconnect with the device if the connection crosses multiple Ethernet subnets. Multicast connections are limited to one subnet.
Inhibit module
Select or clear this check box to inhibit or uninhibit connections to the device.
Tip
: Inhibiting the device causes all connections to the device to be broken and will result in loss of data.
When the device is inhibited and you are online, in
Controller Organizer
for
Logix Designer
, the Inhibited Icon is displayed near the device.
Select to stop communication to a device:
  • If you inhibit the device while you are online and connected to the device, connections to the device are closed.
  • If you inhibit the device while online but a connection to the device has not been established (perhaps due to an error condition or fault), the device is inhibited. The device status information changes to indicate that the device is Inhibited and not Faulted.
  • If you uninhibit a device (clear the check box) while online, and no fault condition occurs, connections are made to the device and the device is dynamically reconfigured (if you are the owner controller) with the configuration you have created for that device. If you are a listener (have chosen a Listen Only communication format), you cannot re-configure the device.
  • If you uninhibit a device while online and a fault condition occurs, connections are not made to the device.
Major fault on controller if connection fails while in run mode
Select to configure the controller so that a connection failure causes a major fault on the controller when in run mode.
Connection fault
Displays the fault code returned from the controller (related to the device you are configuring) and the text detailing the connection fault that has occurred.
Common categories for errors are:
  • Connection Request Error
    - The controller is attempting to make a connection to the device and has received an error. The connection was not made.
  • Service Request Error
    - The controller is attempting to request a service from the device and has received an error. The service was not performed successfully.
  • Module Configuration Invalid
    - The configuration in the device is invalid.
  • Electronic Keying Mismatch
    - Electronic Keying is enabled and some part of the keying information differs between the software and the device.
Tip
: If the major revision of the 5094 adapter firmware does not support PRP and the PRP/DLR switch is set to the PRP position, the device returns error 16#0010. A major unrecoverable fault is set by the device and is visible in the
Device Information
view. See the release notes for the major revision of the device firmware.
