Safety Signature ID

Your safety controller must be online to access these functions. See Online Workspace.

Generate Safety Signature

Per the safety validation process (see Validate the Project), once the application tests are complete and before verification testing, you must generate the safety signature. The programming software automatically uploads the safety signature after it is generated.
To generate the safety signature, select Generate on the Safety tab of the Device properties of the Safety Controller Profile.
TIP: Safety signature creation is time stamped.
You can change the safety application even after a safety signature exists if the controller is offline and you have the appropriate safety permission. When you deploy changes, a validation warning appears that prompts you to delete the safety signature and generate a new one.
You cannot update the firmware when a safety signature exists.

Copy Safety Signature

You can use the Copy button to create a record of the safety signature for use in safety project documentation, comparison, and validation.
To copy the ID, date, and time components to the clipboard, select Copy on the Safety tab of the Device properties of the Safety Controller Profile.

Delete Safety Signature

ATTENTION: When you delete the safety signature, all functions are impacted and require additional safety measures while the safety signature is removed. After you delete the safety signature, you must retest and revalidate your system at some level to meet SIL 2/PLd or SIL 3/PLe.
To delete the safety signature, select Delete on the Safety tab of the Device properties of the Safety Controller Profile.
You cannot delete the safety signature when the following is true.
  • The controller is safety-locked.
  • The mode switch of the safety controller is in the RUN position.
  • The controller is in Run mode with the Run mode signature protection enabled.

Protect the Safety Signature in Run Mode

The safety signature cannot be deleted while Protect Signature in Run Mode is enabled and the controller is in Run mode, regardless of whether the safety application is locked or unlocked.
To protect the safety signature, check the Protect Signature in Run Mode checkbox on the Safety tab of the Device properties of the Safety Controller Profile.
