Configure Output State in Communication Fault Mode
You can configure individual output points to specific states when a connection fault
occurs, that is, the connection between the controller and the module breaks.
Output Behavior Immediately After a Connection Fault
When the connection between a controller and module breaks, the output can behave in
the following ways, depending on how the Communication Fault Mode State parameter is
configured:
- Off – Output is 0 or Off.
- On – Output is 1 or On.
- Hold – Output maintains the last state.
- Local Control – Output continues to operate as configured for the point.IMPORTANT:Local Control option is only available for the output points that are controlled by local events. For example, Digital Output, Logic Controlled and Digital Output, Triggered Pulse. When Local Control is selected for Communication Fault mode and Override is enabled for the output channel, the output turns off when the module enters Communication Fault mode.
The output remains at that state value until the following occurs:
- The connection to the controller is re-established.
- The duration expired, which is based on the value that is defined in the Communication Fault Mode State Duration.
Communication Fault State Duration After Connection Fault
For output behavior after a connection fault, you must define how long the output
remains at the specified value before it transitions to a Final Communication Fault
Mode State.
You can configure the output to remain at the specific value for the following
times:
- Forever
- 1 second
- 2 seconds
- 5 seconds
- 10 seconds
After the Communication Fault Mode State Duration time expires, the output
transitions to the user-defined Final Communication Fault Mode State.
Final Communication Fault State
The Final Communication Fault State defines the state to which the output goes after
the Communication Fault Mode State Duration time expires.
Once the connection between the controller and module is re-established, the output
resumes normal operation.
When Communication Fails in Program Mode
When communication fails in Program Mode, the output can behave in the following
ways, depending on how you configure the When Communication Fails in Program Mode
parameter:
- Leave Outputs in Program Mode State – It causes the output to behave as defined by the Output State in Program Mode selection.
- Change Outputs to Communication Fault Mode State – It causes the output to behave as defined by the Output State in Communication Fault Mode selection.
