Run applications in Docker containers with offline entitlements

Activate the offline Runtime entitlement on the host, pass the offline entitlement value when you start the Docker container, and verify that the container runs.
TIP: For complete examples of configuration files, certificates, and other items required to validate entitlements, See https://github.com/FactoryTalk-Optix/Optix_Docker_FTOptixUpdateServer.
IMPORTANT: Without a valid entitlement, the
FactoryTalk Optix Application
stops running after 120 minutes.
Prerequisites
TIP: Before you deploy or update an application in the container, the runtime log might not contain the usual startup entry. This behavior is expected.
  1. To run applications in Docker containers with offline entitlements
  2. Get the offline entitlement value for the activated host.
Use the offline entitlement value that matches the offline entitlement activated on the host.
  3. In the terminal, enter:
docker run --publish 49100:49100 --env ADMIN_PASSWORD=
    admin_password
    [--name
    container_name
    ] [--publish
    external_port
    :
    internal_port
    ] [--restart unless-stopped] --env
    license_environment_variable
    =
    offline_entitlement_value
    [-d] [-v
    local_folder
    :/root/FTOptixApplication/Projects/
    app_name
    ]
    image_name
For parameter descriptions, see Docker parameters.
To verify that the container displays in the container list, enter
docker ps -a
in the terminal.
Example command:
docker run --publish 49100:49100 --publish 8080:8080 --env ADMIN_PASSWORD=AdminPassword --name ftoptix-runtime --restart unless-stopped --env LICENSE_ENVIRONMENT_VARIABLE=offline_entitlement_value ftoptix-runtime
  • Confirm that the status column shows
    Up
    after the container starts.
  • If the container does not start with the entitlement, verify that the offline entitlement matches the deployed application.
  • If the container does not start with the entitlement, verify that the offline entitlement is not already bound to another host or container instance.
