VIDEO: First Automated Slitting System

In this video from the 2016 Automation Fair® event, Kevin Knake from HMS Industrial Networks demonstrates a collaborative project with system integrator Millennium Controls, OEM JSI and Encompass Partner FANUC Robotics: the first automated slitting system with robotic blade changes, for the paper industry. The evolution of old technologies provides many options and optimization not available in the past. With the addition of the robotic axis and returnable blade holders, operators no longer have to be responsible for the maintenance and handling of slitter blades, adding a new element of safety.

The HMS wireless technology sends signals between the PLC and the robot, while the eWON Cosy allows users to remotely troubleshoot and program a PLC and to view and control an HMI via any Internet-connected device.
