A Collaborative Solution for Today’s Brewer
Rockwell Automation and McRae Integration, a Rockwell Automation Solution Partner and member of the Rockwell Automation PartnerNetwork™ program, are leveraging their combined strengths to help serve the growing automation market for brewers.
The solution combines McRae’s carefully developed scalable and repeatable software solutions with the PlantPAx® distributed control system from Rockwell Automation. Together, the solution helps breweries enhance quality and consistency, scale up production, reduce production complexities and better manage recipes. In addition, product and solution support, service and training capabilities are available globally.
Combining Expertise Brings More Innovation Opportunities
Rockwell Automation joined the “Shapers,” a team of industrial automation specialists and solution providers including ABB, Cisco and National Instruments, to create a communication solution for real-time and sensor-to-cloud applications in industrial operations.
The solution will be based on the OPC UA protocol, which allows easy and secure sharing of information across different vendor technologies and the time-sensitive networking (TSN) suite of standards, which helps improve latency and robustness in converged industrial networks.
Rockwell Automation has also joined Plug and Play’s corporate partnership network, which provides access to qualified and strategically aligned early-and-growth stage startups. Plug and Play is a global platform that is creating startup ecosystems in many industries and bringing together the best startups and the biggest corporations in the world.
Through this collaboration, Rockwell Automation can identify, review and leverage new and disruptive IIoT technologies developed by world-class startups enhancing its industry-leading offerings in Integrated Architecture, intelligent motor control, and related solutions and services.
Valuable Insights into Brewing Process
Colorado State University (CSU) recently opened a new hands-on brewing lab and industry showcase that will give students practical experience for careers in the brewing and fermentation industries. Support from both the university and members of the Rockwell Automation PartnerNetwork program was vital to getting the brewery operational.
Malisko Engineering, a Solution Partner, led the automation specification and integration efforts of the new brewery. CSU will be home to two future breweries, one modeled after a craft-style brewery and the other modeled after a commercial brewery, albeit on a smaller scale. Both breweries will run on the PlantPAx distributed control system (DCS) from Rockwell Automation, and FactoryTalk® Batch software supports the reuse of modular phase code, provides intuitive recipe authoring and has built-in batch tracking and reporting.
“The on-campus breweries provide industry with a unique resource to engage in recipe development, lab testing, operational technology research and process data analytics,” said Dan Malyszko, director of operations and lead engineer at Malisko Engineering of Denver. “With the PlantPAx system, students gain valuable insights into the brewing process while getting practical exposure to a scalable, stable and operator-friendly automation platform.”
Advanced Automation Technology for World-class Mine
NioCorp Developments Ltd awarded Rockwell Automation the opportunity to engineer, design and procure process automation and instrumentation for NioCorp’s proposed critical minerals, mining and processing facility in Elk Creek, Nebraska, U.S.
Rockwell Automation will be the main automation contractor for the project. The system integration will be provided through MAVERICK Technologies, a Rockwell Automation company that specializes in process automation solutions. Endress+Hauser, a strategic alliance partner, will provide field instrumentation along with valves and related field devices and services.
Strategic Partnership Drives Digitalization
Rockwell Automation and PTC announced their definitive agreement for a strategic partnership that is expected to accelerate growth for both companies and enable them to be the partner of choice for customers around the world who want to transform their physical operations with digital technology.
As part of the partnership, Rockwell Automation will make a $1 billion equity investment in PTC, and Rockwell Automation’s Chairman and CEO, Blake Moret , will join PTC’s board of directors effective with the closing of the equity transaction.
The partnership leverages both companies’ resources, technologies, industry expertise, and market presence, and will include technical collaboration across the organizations as well as joint global go-to-market initiatives.
The alignment of their smart factory technologies and best-in-class information solutions will enable customers to achieve increased productivity, heightened plant efficiency, reduced operational risk, and better system interoperability.
Showcasing Smart Manufacturing Advances and IIoT Opportunities
Rockwell Automation recently presented at the INTERPHEX event in New York, U.S., highlighting advanced technologies and solutions to address challenges of life science companies on April 17-19 in New York, U.S.
Attendees learned how they can use digital and automation technologies to help improve quality and compliance and manage data integrity and security. They also learned about single-use technologies that allow manufacturers to improve flexibility and reduce footprint, helping to speed time-to-market.
A few days later on April 23-27, Rockwell Automation and strategic alliance partners co-exhibited at Hannover Messe 2018 in Hannover, Germany.
At that event, Rockwell Automation demonstrated how it can help companies accelerate digital transformation and use Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) technologies to be more competitive and to bring new value to their operations.
Rockwell Automation on the Move in Asia Pacific
Rockwell Automation On The Move™ (RAOTM) 2018 Conferences were recently held in Seoul, Korea. Over a thousand attendees came to the events on May 10 and discovered the latest technologies, applications and services from The Connected Enterprise portfolio, as well as smart manufacturing solutions.
The company’s strategic partners from the PartnerNetwork program presented their collaborative offerings at the events. There were also various technical sessions and hands-on labs. Attendees were able to try out the latest offerings, including the FactoryTalk Analytics platform, intelligent motor control solutions and premier integration capabilities.
After the success in Korea, the next RAOTM was held in Nanjing, China on May 23-24. Through these events, Rockwell Automation provided industry professionals and manufacturers in Asia Pacific with information on smart manufacturing technologies, which will enable them to implement The Connected Enterprise.
