Assign an IP and DNS address
The project on the HMI device initially downloads from
Studio 5000
View Designer
to the HMI device using a network IP address. The network assigns Ethernet device addresses automatically using DHCP. When assigning an IP and DNS address to an HMI device, use the default to obtain the addresses automatically, or manually enter a static IP and DNS address. DNS translates Internet domain and host names to IP addresses. DNS automatically converts the names typed in a Web browser address bar to the IP addresses of Web servers hosting the sites.
To assign an IP and DNS address
- On the HMI device or in theSystem Banner, selectNavigation
and then select
Settings. - SelectNetwork. TheNetworkpopup opens.
- Select theNetworktab

- Select an option for obtaining IP settings:
- Obtain IP address automatically using DHCP.This is the default. Select this option to automatically assign IP, Subnet mask, Gateway, and DNS addresses.
- Manually configure IP settings.Select this option to manually assign the IP, Subnet mark, Gateway, and DNS addresses using the virtual numeric keypad:
- IP address.If not setting all fields to 100, the range of values for the first set of numbers is 1-255. The range of values for the last three sets of numbers is 0-255.
- Subnet mask.The address must be identical to the server subnet mask.
- Gateway address.This address is optional.
- Primary DNS.The primary IP-formatted address.
- Secondary DNS.An alternate IP-formatted address.
- Tertiary DNS.An additional alternate IP-formatted address.
