Security roles
In
View Designer
security, a user is comparable to a Windows user account, and a role is comparable to a Windows user group. No specific behavior is assigned to each role. Assign a role to each user on the
Security Administration > Users
tab. The assigned role determines which screens the users in the role can access according to the security settings for the screens. All users have the Operator
role by default. The
View Designer
roles to assign to users include: Role | Responsibility |
Administrator | Administering the system, such as adding users and assigning passwords. This security role is assigned to Guest users by default. |
Engineer | Automating the machine and creating or setting the direction of the HMI. |
Maintenance | Keeping the system running at maximum efficiency, and using the HMI screens to troubleshoot, diagnose, and maintain equipment. |
Operator | Running the machine or process, and using the HMI project to view and interact with the process. This security role is assigned to new users by default. |
Restricted | Activities requiring less access than an Operator . Determine screen access based on business needs. This role prevents any non-Administrator user from changing settings on the HMI device. |
Supervisor | Overall production of the machine or plant and uses the HMI screens for critical information, such as the product production, production rate, downtime, and product quality. |
None | Indicates that no role is associated with the Guest user. This option is available for the Guest user account only. Assigning this role grants the Guest user access to only the Home screen. |
