Configure password security policies

Use the
Policies
tab on the
Security Administration
dialog box to create security policies, such as password complexity and length, for user authentication. Assign the password on the card for each user on the
Users
tab.
Prerequisites
  • On the
Project > Project Properties > Log On Method
    tab, verify that
Use user name/password for logging on
    is selected.
To configure password security policies
  1. Select
    Tools > Security Administration
    .
  2. Select the
    Policies
    tab.
  3. Change the password settings as needed:
    • Log off the user after a period of inactivity.
Set in minutes how long the user has to remain inactive to be automatically logged out.
    • Minimum password length
. Specify the minimum amount of characters required. The maximum number allowed is 14.
    • Password history
. Type the number of previous passwords to remember. This enforces a password history and sets how frequently you can reuse old passwords. The maximum number allowed is 24.
    • To disable this feature, set the
      Number of Passwords to Remember
      to zero.
    • Passwords must meet complexity requirements.
Select this option to enforce complexity requirements when you create or change passwords.
      TIP:
Passwords that meet complexity requirements must:
      • Not contain the User Name.
      • Not contain any portion of the Full Name.
      • Contain characters from three of four categories:
        • Uppercase characters of European languages (A through Z, with diacritic marks, Greek and Cyrillic characters)
        • Lowercase characters of European languages (a through z, sharp-s, with diacritic marks, Greek and Cyrillic characters)
        • Numbers 0 through 9
      Non-alphanumeric characters ~!@#$%^&*_-+=`|\(){}[]:;"'<>,.?/
  4. Select
    OK
to save the changes and close the
    Security Administration
    dialog box.
